#10
South Callaway Bulldogs (10-2)
Under the direction of head coach  Tim Rulo(52-18), the Bulldogs have
become one of the most consist programs in Missouri Class 2.  In 2013
the Bulldogs and their strong senior class again put together a solid
campaign.
This season the Bulldogs must replace several of those
talented seniors, but plenty of top players return providing a positive
outlook for the 2014 season.
"It was amazing to watch the players,
school, and community", commented Rulo.  "So proud of the hard work
from previous Bulldogs and I'm excited for the future as well"!
The
offense, which averaged 38.5 points per game a season ago will return 6
starters. Senior QB Troy Hentges(6-0 170) passed for 1,000
yards, rushed for 405 and will direct the spread attack.  All-district
running back Cory Hanger(5-9 170) accumulated more than
1,000 yards rushing and receiving. The line will be a source of strength
with the return of center Michael Witt(5-9 165), Trevor Miller(5-11 195),
and Austin Pierce(5-10 195).  Luke Horstman returns at wide receiver.
"We want to be physical blocking both up front and on the
perimeter", added Rulo.  "We have a large senior class which should
provide depth, but getting younger players reps will be key early for push
during playoffs".
The defense which allowed just 7.33 points per
game will also see the return of 6 starters. Ballard and Horstman return on
the defensive line, Ballard earned all-district honors with 75 tackles and
17 tackles for loss.  Senior linebacker Dylan Hare(5-11
210) returns as the leader of the defensive unit along with fellow
linebacker Trevor Miller(5-11 195).
Hanger returns as an all-state
defensive back, he grabbed 5 interceptions a season ago and leads the
backfield.  Senior Mason Showmaker(5-1 150) earned all-district honors
and returns at defensive back. "It all starts up front!", explained Rulo.
"We will look to again "swarm and punish" opponents. We have some young
linebackers and defensive backs which will need to learn quickly to stop the
run and prevent the big play."
The Bulldogs will compete for the
first time in the Eastern Missouri Conference and will compete with Bowling
Green for the league title. "We must continue tradition of hard work during
practice to allow talent on the field to shine".
The Bulldog
philosophy has served them well during Rulo's previous six years.  Big
things are expected once again this season from the Bulldogs.
