The GAC/Suburban Conference Shootout returns to the Family
Arena in St. Charles for the fourth year giving fans in the St. Louis area an opportunity to
fill their holiday plate with plenty of basketball action.
Coaches in the Gateway Athletic and Suburban South/West ranked
their teams from 1 - 17, then the teams were matched providing three days of
Action kicks off Thursday, December 19
4:00 Summit vs. Howell North
2-4 Falcons face 2-2 Howell North Knights. Knights are led by James Gleeson who
averages 16.8 and Normandy transfer Terry White who adds 14.5 per contest.
5:30 University City vs. Francis Howell
Lions(3-2) open the season winning the championship of the
Winfield Tournament under the direction of new head coach Cary Lewis. 2-2 Francis Howell boasts
victories over Holt and Elsberry.
7:00 Marquette vs. Howell Central
2-2 Mustangs, under the direction of head coach Kevin
Schultz face Marquette senior guard Brooks Gerrity averages 20 points per game
and is one of the top shooters in the metro area.
8:30 Eureka vs. Christian (O'Fallon)
Football delayed the start of the hoops season for Eureka
who enters with a 1-3 mark, including a victory over Vashon. AAA Small program Christian(3-2) enters
on a three game winning streak, led by Evan
Marcks (17 ppg) and Deantrell Prince(16.4
Friday, December 20
4:00 Seckman vs. Sullivan
2-0 Jaguars have battled foes DeSoto, Fox and also the
weather facing three cancellations.
Sullivan, from the Four Rivers Conference enters with a 6-0 mark, led by
Justin Biermann and Heath Schatz who each average 16 points
5:30 Lindbergh vs. St. Dominic
1-1 Flyers return from a long winter break to face 0-5
Crusaders who are an AAA large program who are helping the GAC fill vacant
7:00 Kirkwood vs. Washington
Pioneers enter with 2-2 mark, 5-0 Blue Jays are led by
senior Ronnie Suggs, a University of
Missouri recruit who averages 22.8 per contest. Kirkwood senior Evan
Booker (Maryville University) averages a double-double, 15 points, 12 rebounds
8:30 Webster Groves vs. St. Charles
2-1 Statesmen face the same Pirates whom they battled in the
GAC/Suburban Shootout a season ago.
6-foot-7 inch junior forward Alex
Floresca has matured into one of the top recruits from Missouri in the
Class of 2015.
8-0 St. Charles is led by 6-foot-2 inch junior guard Casey Teson who averages 18 points per
game and is connecting on more than 50% from beyond the arc.
Saturday, December 21
9:00 Northwest vs. Warrenton
Lions and Warriors kick off a long day of basketball
Saturday with the "Breakfast Club" edition of the shootout at 9:00 AM
10:30 Fox vs. Ft. Zumwalt East
The 2-3 Warriors under the direction of first year head
coach Mike Wilken face the 1-7 Lions of Zumwalt East.
12:00 Mehlville vs. Winfield
Warriors and Panthers meet, each seeking their second
victory of the season.
1:30 Parkway West vs. Holt
1-3 Longhorns feature senior guard Jake Socha who averages 18 points per game and introduce freshman
forward Wyatt Yess who has impressed
with 11 per contest. Brady Busateri averages 19.3 per game
for the 2-2 Indians
North vs. Zumwalt West
The young 2-2 North Vikings face the balanced offensive
attack of the West Jaguars.
4:30 Parkway South vs. Timberland
South enters on a three game winning
streak, the 3-1 Patriots feature plenty of offensive firepower and are led by
Jeremy Verges who averages 18.5 points per game. The 2-2 Wolves are led by Adam Ingle.
6:00 Parkway Central vs. St. Charles West
3-1 Colts face the 4-2 Warriors in a quality matchup. West features quality guard play
including Logan Gonce (18.8 ppg) and sophomore Davis Soderberg(15.3 ppg). Central brings a talented group, led in
side by 6-foot-6 inch Nathan Biggs who averages 18.8 points.
7:30 Lafayette vs. Troy
Senior Nate Messer (13.5 ppg) leads the Lancers, who earned
the championship in the Webster Statesmen Classic. Trojans are led by JD Powell and Adam
9:00 Oakville vs. Ft. Zumwalt South
Worth the wait for the final game of the event, 6-foot-10
inch St. Louis University recruit Austin Gillmann(18.5 ppg) will match up with the
6-1 South Bulldogs and two of the top juniors in Missouri. 6-foot-1 inch guard Preston Whitfield averages 21 points
per game and inside 6-foot-4 inch Marshawn
Blackmon adds 16 per game.
