Filbert Five release at College Tip Off Luncheon
SPRINGFIELD-As a part of the College Tip Off Luncheon, presented by Mercy, held at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame the announcement of the fourth edition of the "Filbert Five" will be released.
Each year the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame selects a group of five to honor with an award named for Gary Filbert, dubbed "Mr. Basketball" in Missouri, Filbert was the longtime Executive Director of the MBCA, the Show-Me Games, and a Hall of Fame basketball coach.
This year the Filbert Five will honor basketball at all levels in the Show-Me State. Ken Ash, Executive Director the Show-Me Games will represent amateur basketball. Denny Hunt, Executive Director of the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association will represent high school basketball, while college basketball will be represented at each of three levels.
Columbia College head coach Bob Burchard will represent the NAIA, Kim Anderson, head coach at the University of Central Missouri will represent NCAA Division II, and Gary Link, from the University of Missouri, will represent Division I basketball in the state. Also George Wilson, long time coach at College of the Ozarks will represent the contributions of women's basketball and the NAIA level.
The event will also feature long time Missouri head basketball coach Norm Stewart as well as holding a University of Missouri basketball reunion for former assistant coaches and players from throughout his 33-year career.
The lunch will be held Saturday at the University Plaza Convention Center with lunch beginning at 11:00 AM and the program getting underway at 11:30 AM.
