Current River Basketball Challenge covers A - Z

BASKETBALL FROM A TO Z (ALTON to ZALMA)
The fifth annual First Midwest Bank Current River Challenge promises to be the

biggest and best yet. The early season shoot-out just continues to grow! Starting in 2005
with just six teams and five games, the Thanksgiving weekend kickoff for the basketball
season in the Southeast Ozarks has expanded to include twenty-three teams playing
sixteen games over two days.
When the event began it featured local squads against teams from outlying areas
that would not meet short of a run in the state tournament; however, now with the basic
format still in place, the Van Buren event will feature more teams from across Missouri.
New to the field this year are the Gateway Tech Jaguars out of St. Louis, the
always tough Nixa Eagles and the Mountain Grove Panthers located near Springfield
plus a fine team from the Fort Wood area, the Stoutland Tigers. Also included in the
field is state tourney qualifier from last, the Redwings of Eminence, the always strong
Clarkton Reindeer plus, of course, the hometown Bulldogs and sixteen other squads.
Following is this year's game schedule.
