Offer on the way?
Two schools have offered 2015 Pacific (Mo.) shooting guard Cullen VanLeer and are out in front to land the talented shooter. Missouri State and Evansville have been recruiting VanLeer the longest and have done the best job of building strong relationships.
"I'm going to take an official visit to Missouri State soon," said the 6-foot-4, 195 pound prospect. "They've been recruiting me since I was a freshman. It's a really good program and a good school. I'm also going to take an official visit to Evansville. Just not sure on the date yet."
Recently, Mizzou entered the picture and the Tigers could shake things up with an offer.
"I started hearing from [Missouri] after the first weekend of the July evaluation period. I've been talking quite a bit with Coach [Rob] Fulford and Coach [Brad] Loos," said VanLeer.
This past Saturday, VanLeer took an unofficial visit to Mizzou to get a better look at the campus and meet with all the coaches.
"The visit went really good," he explained. "I'd been to Mizzou before, but this trip I got a chance to see the campus more in depth and I liked everything I saw. The basketball facilities really stood out."
"I was able to sit down with the coaches and talk about where I stand on the board for them. There are some guys ahead of me, so as of now there is no offer," continued VanLeer.
For Missouri, the draw to VanLeer is his scoring and shooting ability. As a junior he averaged 21.9 points per game, 8.4 rebounds per game, 1.8 steals per game and 4.4 assists per game.
"They really like my shooting ability," said VanLeer. "They told me if I was on the team now I would be the best shooter."
For now, though, VanLeer has to wait and see if the offer is eventually extended.
"I've always followed Mizzou basketball, so if they offered it would be hard to turn down the opportunity to play for the Tigers," he said.
An official visit to Missouri is also in the works, but no date is set as of yet. PowerMizzou will continue to bring you updates on the recruitment of VanLeer as they happen.
