Barnett named Mr. Show-Me Basketball
Over the weekend the St. Louis all-stars captured the Missouri Challenge championship as a part of the MBCA Hall of Fame weekend and not surprisingly CBC (St. Louis) senior forward Jordan Barnett was at the center of their success. Barnett was named Mr. Show-Me Basketball earlier Sunday at the MBCA Academic All-State banquet, then scored 26 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and helped guide St. Louis to a 90-85 overtime victory over the Southwest All-Stars in the afternoon.
Barnett joins an impressive list of Missouri seniors to have earned the award including Bradley Beal, Tyler Hansbrough, Kareem Rush, David Lee, Ryan Robertson, Anthony Peeler, and others. There have been many impressive performances among them, but it's hard to top the explanation point in which Barnett finished his season.
"Jordan just stood out", commented MBCA assistant Executive Director Shawn Erickson. "He had an outstanding year, he guided his team to a state championship, and he is truly a quality student-athlete."
Barnett averaged 20 points and 8 rebounds throughout the season, leading his Cadets to the Class 5 state championship game in Columbia. A 43-point, 20-rebound performance by the 6-foot-7 inch 190-pound senior in the title game helped lead his team to an 86-77 victory over Hickman (Columbia).
Barnett plans to play his collegiate basketball in the Big XII Conference for the Texas Longhorns. "The addition of Jordan and Obie is another step in the right direction for our program," Texas head coach Rick Barnes said. "Considering the number of players that we have returning next year, we made a conscious effort that anyone we added to our program would need to build on the general culture of our program. We have also improved our talent level and become a much more athletic team by adding Jordan and Obie."
"Jordan is a prototypical, athletic small forward," Barnes added. "He is a good shooter and rebounder and a very high-character student-athlete."
