Lasley lands Bruin offer at UCLA camp

WESTWOOD -- Three-star wide receiver Jordan Lasley clocked a 4.44 40-yard dash Friday evening, and after hearing of that time and seeing him catch a few passes, it took that long for UCLA coaches to offer him a scholarship as well.

Lasley flew to the fastest 40 time in the entire UCLA Skills Camp at Spaulding Field Friday, then dazzled in 1-on-1's, and earned a Bruin offer from wide receiver coach Eric Yarber and head coach Jim Mora during the dinner break.

"They called us in I guess to go eat and everything, and then coach Yarbs, he yelled at me and told me to come outside," Lasley said after the camp. "And I was talking to coach Yarbs and coach Mora and he basically asked me how I felt about being a Bruin, and how I feel about the camp and the coaching and all that, and he basically just offered me on the spot."

The offer is by far Lasley's biggest, and because of that, an immediate commitment certainly crossed his mind.

"If it was my own personal decision, I think I actually would have committed," the 6-foot-2, 180-pound WR said. "But I have to talk it over with my mom and my dad. They don't want me to make any decisions by myself."

Lasley said that doesn't mean a commitment won't happen within the next few days, however. He said he's in standby mode right now, waiting for his parents to digest the offer and seeing where he and his family should go next.

"I haven't actually had a real conversation with my mom and my dad yet," Lasley said. "But if they feel it, then I feel it."

The commitment would be a big one for UCLA, as Lasley has completely blown up this spring. He's been dominant in every 7-on-7 event, and was arguably the top receiver at UCLA's camp Friday night, battling with near-five-star Josh Malone for the No. 1 spot.

Lasley said Washington could be close to offering next, and if he has a similar performance at USC's camp next week, the Trojans could offer too.

But right now, the Bruins lead.

"I think I just have to talk it over with my mom and my dad and see how they feel about it," Lasley said of a Bruin commitment. "Right now, I'm just going through the process. But UCLA is No. 1 on my list and I love coach Yarbs and coach Mora and I'm really thinking hard about being a Bruin."
