Ruffin rises to MOsports Super 50

The MOsports.com staff with the help of top basketball talent evaluators from around the Show Me State have put together a list of the Top 50 players in Missouri. This was a difficult process to find the top players in the state,
regardless of class. Players were evaluated on current level of skill, and potential at the next level.

The Sikeston Bulldogs have put together a remarkable three-year run, beginning with a 30-0 record and the Class 4 state championship in 2011, building a 23-5 mark a season ago, and a 17-1 start to their 2012-2013 campaign.

On of the key pieces to the Bulldog puzzle over that span has been senior Vashawn Ruffin. Ruffin, a 5-foot-10 inch talent played shooting guard the past two seasons, but has filled a void this season at point guard.

A solid selection to the MOsports.com Super 50, Ruffin is leading and producing and the Bulldogs continue to win. Ruffin has proven a plethora of positive attributes during his tenure with the Dogs.

"Vashawn is a very good ball handler, passer, and an outstanding shooter", commented Sikeston head coach Gregg Holifield.

Through 18 games this season, Ruffin is averaging 15.2 points, 7.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game.

"He has adjusted nicely and emerged as a very consistent playmaker for us, despite facing various box-and-one's and double-teaming", added Holifield. "He handles the ball well, does a great job of setting up his teammates, and can score in a variety of ways."

Taking on a new responsibility as the point guard this season Ruffin continues to excel from the perimeter. He has connected on 39 three-point baskets (43%) and he is currently shooting 78% from the free throw line.

Ruffin is a threat to opponents in many ways. "Vashawn can get to the rim, hit the mid-range jumper, and has deep 3 point range, as well. He is versatile enough to score off the dribble or off the catch. He is a hard worker who has put in a lot of time to become a very good player", added Holifield.

"Vashawn was selected as MBCA All-state player as a junior, as well as earning all-conference and all-district honors. Vashawn has been a major part of 3 teams that have a combined record of 70-6 and was a key contributor to our 30-0 state championship team as a sophomore in 2011."

Ruffin is receiving a lot of recruiting interest from several different levels and is awaiting his first collegiate offer. With another successful post season run Ruffin will complete a spectacular career and will have many options.
