Render discusses decision

Indianola offensive lineman Keegan Render has known for about a month that he wanted to commit to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Today, the 6-foot-3, 310-pounder finally did it, giving his verbal pledge to Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz during a meeting this morning. We caught up with Render to talk about his decision, why he chose the Hawkeyes, and much more.

Q: When did you kind of make up your mind on Iowa?

RENDER: Honestly, it was about a month ago. I just hadn't really told anybody. I was just kind of keeping it to myself and just wanted to make sure that I was 100% sure I wanted to go to Iowa.

Q: What kind of pushed it over the top?

RENDER: Well, I just really like Coach Morgan and his recruiting style. Iowa has a good history of offensive linemen and I'm kind of a downhill run blocker just like they are, so I think I will fit in pretty well with their offense.

Q: Were you down there for the whole weekend?

RENDER: I was there last night and then I went in this morning to talk to Coach Ferentz and that was pretty much it for today. After that, I had to leave for basketball.

Q: Was that when you told them the news?

RENDER: Yeah, I told Coach Ferentz this morning.

Q: What did you say and what was his reaction?

RENDER: I just told him at the end of the meeting that I wanted to be a Hawkeye. He was pretty happy and got up and shook my hand.
