Green-Beckham's Norman Visit is a Family Affair
The only job in high school football more difficult than slowing down the nation's No. 1 overall player, Dorial Green-Beckham, is the one his father, John Beckham, is attempting to do by slowing down the recruiting process for his 6-foot-6, 220-pound son.
Since earning his first offers as a high school freshman 'DGB' has been a runaway freight train of recruiting attention and his entire family has worked tirelessly to remove some of the burden on a recruit that has become the apple of the eye of coaching staffs from coast to coast.
For the last few weeks an idea that had steadily been picking up steam was that the Beckham family was ready to put the entire chaotic situation that has been the last year or more behind them. The Beckhams recently visiting Missouri had buoyed that idea and with their Saturday-Sunday visit to Norman there seemed to be more and more smoke surrounding the rumor.
However it seems that the visits were both simply part of a plan they had laid out several years ago.
"He started getting his attention so early that I told him not to worry about it at that point in time. At the time we had pushed the idea that in the spring time of (Dorial's) junior year we'll get serious about it, we'll have some time to do it and then when (younger brother Darnel Green) got sick it changed the whole plan. It just wasn't possible to do some of those things in the spring," Beckham explained.
